If you’re one of those bad people who likes to illegally download and share games, watch your back. Five top game manufacturers will serve notice on 25,000 people across the UK who have committed the aforementioned offence. Each will have to pay £300 to avoid being taken to court. The companies involved are Atari, Topware Interactive, Reality Pump, Techland and Codemasters.

The companies have appointed the infamously aggressive law firm Davenport Lyons to manage this crack-down. Their first victim was an unemployed mother of two who was ordered to pay damages of £16,000 to Topware for illegally downloading and sharing Dream Pinball 3D. It’s bad enough having to pay 16 grand for a game, but having to pay 16 grand for a shockingly bad game? Double ouch.

Davenport Lyons are applying to the High Court for an order requiring ISPs to hand over the names and addresses of the 25,000 people they suspect of being naughty. They apparently already have 5,000 names.

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has said the company is unhappy with retailers who sell the Wii console bundled with software to make higher margins.

Many retailers are bundling the console with extra games on the run up to Christmas, but Fils-Aime believes it lessens the advantage Nintendo has over more expensive machines from Sony and Microsoft.

“Retailers have already been given feedback that we are not big fans of that,” Fils-Aime told Reuters.

“We think it masks some of the price advantage we have versus our competition and, frankly, the consumer should decide what they want,” he said.

However, Fils-Aime said that the company wouldn’t take action against retail but hoped that the strong relationships it has with the High Street is enough for stores to be mindful of bundling.

“We don’t have to remind retailers of the strength we have right now. We are simply making an observation and that reinforces our point quite nicely with retailers,” he added.

It’s the news that our most loyal members have been waiting for, and today we are happy to announce that we can finally unveil the eagerly awaited Wii Points Card Shop!

The Wii Points Card Shop is the place where Club Nintendo members can swap Stars for Wii Points Cards. These cards contain a code that you can enter in the Wii Shop Channel on your Wii. This will add Wii Points to your Wii Shop Channel account, which you can spend on such items as games for Virtual Console or Wii Software.

In order to make use of the Wii Points Card Shop you need to link your Club Nintendo account to your Wii Shop Channel account. You can read instructions on how to do this below, as well as in the Wii Points Card Shop FAQ.

Once you have made this connection, all you have to do is login, select the Wii Points Card denomination of your choice and press the ‘Purchase’ button to receive your Wii Points Card code. Please note that we currently allow a maximum of two Wii Points Cards to be purchased per day by any individual. If you reached the daily limit, please come back tomorrow.

We would like to thank our members for their patience, and hope you will enjoy this Club Nintendo benefit! If you’re not a Club Nintendo member yet, click here for more information on becoming a member.

How do I link my Club Nintendo account to my Wii Shop Channel account?

When you have a Club Nintendo account and your Wii console is connected to the Internet, go to the Wii Shop Channel from the Wii Menu.

Once you are connected to the Wii Shop Channel, select ‘Start Shopping.’

On the next screen, select ‘Settings’.

On the Settings Screen, point your Wii Remote at the Club Nintendo logo and press the A Button in order to link your Club Nintendo account.

You will then be asked to enter the email address and password that you normally use to log into your Club Nintendo account.

Once you entered your details, select ‘Link.’

When the link has been established you will get a confirmation message. Select ‘OK’.

Your Club Nintendo Membership is now linked to your Wii Shop Channel account.

History is brought to life in this authentic, epic experience as players relive famous conflicts fought on the intense battlefields of World War II. Told through the eyes of an American GI, the game features heart-pumping action, real WWII weapons and actual documentary video footage as players fight through a variety of territories including Guadalcanal, the Philippines and Iwo Jima.

“We’re thrilled to continue our collaboration with the award-winning The History Channel to deliver gamers with a new chapter in the WWII series,” said David Oxford, Activision, Inc. “Everything in The History Channel: Battle for the Pacific from the combat and mission locations to the weapons and documentary footage is painstakingly researched, allowing us to deliver a cinematic war experience that is both incredibly exciting and accurate.”

The History Channel: Battle for the Pacific thrusts players directly into the Pacific’s most historic battles of WWII. Utilizing real combat skills and authentic allied and axis weapons, including sub-machine guns, sniper rifles, anti-aircraft guns and grenades, players will be able to relive history and fight through missions based on actual battles. Additionally, players can go online on next generation platforms and the PC and play as an American or Japanese soldier in individual or team based modes such as elimination, deathmatch, team deathmatch and capture the flag.

The History Channel: Battle for the Pacific, rated “T” (Teen), is available now on the Xbox 360 ($49.99), the PS2, Wii and the PC ($39.99). The game will also be available on the PS3 for $49.99 on December 12, 2007.

Alvin and the Chipmunks

Released as a part of a novelty record in the fall of 1958, The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don’t Be Late) was the first hit from The Chipmunks. Written and sung by Ross Bagdasarian, Sr., in what has become the Chipmunks’ signature sound, the song was credited to a fictional group “The Chipmunks” comprised of Alvin, Simon and Theodore, who were named after actual executives at Bagdasarian’s first record label, Liberty Records. The record became an immediate success, selling more than 4 million copies in seven weeks and spending four weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. It went on to earn three Grammy Awards and a nomination for Record of the Year, and has enjoyed tremendous popularity every year since.

Alvin’s ditty about wanting a hula hoop (which was THE hot new toy that first year) has gone on to become part of our pop culture and has been featured in various film and television hits, including Saturday Night Live, Friends, The Sopranos, Almost Famous, King of Queens, Nip/Tuck, Boston Legal, Ally McBeal and Ugly Betty.

“Alvin and the Chipmunks have entertained three generations of fans,” said Ross Bagdasarian, Jr., President of Bagdasarian Productions, LLC. “Next year marks the 50th anniversary of the franchise, and gives parents an opportunity to introduce their kids to the same trio they grew up with twenty years earlier through the new Alvin and the Chipmunks videogame and live action film.”

“I look so cool in my first video game AND major motion picture ….” said Alvin, lead singer of the band. “By the way, if all you fans are wondering, I finally did get the hula hoop. Now if you’re listening Dave, I want a Maserati.”

In addition to the Chipmunk Song, the game features 40 popular hits and cult favorites that parents and kids alike can play along to. These songs include chart-topping songs originally written by artists such as RUN-DMC, Boy George and Blink 182. It is available for the PS2, Wii, NDS, and PC. The game has been rated E for Everyone by the ESRB and is available at retailers nationwide today.
