It is a sad sad day when someone can't play Mario Strikers due to a TV expiry. Still, every cloud has a silver lining, time to get that LCD HDTV you've been eyeing up lol. Go on, you know you want to!! :D

Reminds of the fitters (mechanical) at work, their motto was
"If it doesn't work, hit it with a hammer until it does" ;)
Good on you for fixing it, saved a bit of cash. And it gives you that bit more time to save up for a nice big plasma.

Sounds like a loose connection on the power switch or it's a dry joint around the power input components. With taking the back off you've disturbed something, TV works until components warm up and then joint or connection go open circuit, TV dead again.
Most larger electrical stores have inhouse repair centres, about £30 for an estimate, (last time I went) might be worth while trying there.

That sound exactly like whats going wrong wii spark... I've had the tv for over 10 years now and never had any problems... don't know wheter its worth getting it repaired or putting the money to a new tv... Thanks Wii Spark

If it's older than 10 years, then I'd say save your repair bill and get new, especially as we're going digital over the next few years. Make sure a new one has the digital ready logo on it.

I agree with Wii Spark. TV's are generally considered to be a throw away item these days. Probably best to cut your losses and buy new mate.

Read this comparison col, Plasma's yesterdays technology. http://www.flattvpeople.com/tutorials/lcd-vs-plasma.asp
Was always put off lcd as they couldnt handle fast movement, but looking at that has swayed me to getting lcd, always think they look a bit crisper than plasma when you see the two next to each other in the shops.
So lcd it is, cheers thelocaluk

Just remember to buy a component cable for the Wii as well, your need it to improve the image quality of the low definition Wii lol

What are your reasons though?

Check this out and make your own mind up which to go for.
Plasma vs LCD
The ADVANTAGES of Plasma over LCD are:
1. Larger screen size availability.
2. Better contrast ratio and ability to render deeper blacks.
3. Better color accuracy and saturation.
4. Better motion tracking (little or no motion lag in fast moving images).
The DISADVANTAGES of Plasma vs LCD include:
1. Plasma TVs are more susceptible to burn-in of static images.
2. Plasma TVs generate more heat than LCDs, due to the need to light of phosphors to create the images.
3. Does not perform as well at higher altitudes.
4. Shorter display life span (about 30,000 hours or 8 hrs of viewing a day for 9 years) than LCD. However, screen life span is improving to as high as 60,000 hours. due to technology improvements.
LCD television ADVANTAGES over Plasma include:
1. No burn-in of static images.
2. Cooler running temperature.
3. No high altitude use issues.
4. Increased image brightness over Plasma.
5. Longer display life (about 60,000 hours - at which time all you may need to do is replace the light source, not the entire set).
6. Lighter weight (when comparing same screen sizes) than Plasma counterparts.
DISADVANTAGES of LCD vs Plasma televisions include:
1. Lower contrast ratio, not as good rendering deep blacks.
2. Not as good at tracking motion (fast moving objects may exhibit lag artifacts) - However, this is improving.
3. Not as common in large screen sizes above 42-inches as Plasma.
4. Although LCD televisions do not suffer from burn-in susceptibility, it is possible that individual pixels on an LCD televisions can burn out, causing small, visible, black or white dots to appear on the screen. Individual pixels cannot be repaired, the whole screen would need to be replaced at that point, if the individual pixel burnout becomes annoying to you.
5. LCD televisions are typically more expensive than equivalent-sized Plasma televisions (although this is changing), especially when comparing EDTV Plasmas to HDTV-LCD Televisions.
Just remember to buy a component cable for the Wii as well, your need it to improve the image quality of the low definition Wii lol
And also that whatever model you decide on, check that it has component input sockets (not all do) and at least two HDMI inputs. One for the Sky box and the other for future HD dvd players. Some have a DVI input as well so you can link your pc to them.
Happy shopping :D

The new Samsung LCD tv are pretty good... They support full 1080p and at a reasonable price... this is what I've got my eyes set on but the 37" version... soon as I've got enough money...

A component cable for the Wii also stops the picture trailing issues that you get with the standard AV cable. I'd call buying a component cable essential.

I am liking that one. £900 is the cheapest i've seen for the 40", price may have dropped slightly when i buy one.

If your spending hundreds on a tv, £20 for a cable to make your Wii games look as good as possible is nothing in comparison, though you will also be spending out on quality scarts and HDMI cables.....best put another £70 aside lol
I will be going for a package deal hopefully TV & DVD with HDMI cable. In need of a new dvd player as i've had this one since dvd players became popular in the late 90's and is quite big compared to todays sizes. As for getting a hdmi cable for cable tv i won't bother until more channels are broadcast in Hi Def.
